Chipperfield wrote several dog books such as Greatheart and Windruff of Links Tor. He also wrote about other stallions in the wild, such as Ghost Horse, Dark Fury, and Checoba, Stallion of the Comanche.
He knows his animals and the tough people who work with them or young boys who treat them kindly. He doesn't seem to have done girls or fillies. But then he was probably 'writing for boys'.

Anyone really interested in mustangs should read 'The Mustangs' by J Frank Dobie, a collection of the memories of the people who worked with the wild mustangs in the days of the west.
